Anne O’Mahony – Activities Coordinator/ Sonas Practitioner
Hi, my name is Anne and I have been working in Amberley Home since 2013, I am qualified as a Healthcare Assistant, FETAC level 5. I have been working as an Activities Coordinator since August 2014, I have 15 years experience as a Scout leader with the local Fermoy Unit and a lot of the activities and ideas from scouting can be carried over to work in the activities programme in Amberley.
I am also fully qualified as a Sonas practitioner, The Sonas programme is an evidence-based, therapeutic activity for people who have dementia. The essential features of Sonas Group and Individual Sessions are:
- Stimulation of all five senses
- Focus on communication
- Use of structure and repetition
- Focus on retained abilities rather than deficits or disabilities
- Creation of a warm, failure-free environment
If you have any queries about the activities programme, please contact me at 025 40900 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Hi, I’m Kathlyn and have been a member of the Amberley Care Team first as a Healthcare Assistant and later on as an Activities Coordinator together with Ann since 2015. I’m a qualified Healthcare Assistant, FETAC level 5 and have been working in another nursing home as an Exercise and Activities Coordinator from 2007-2010 before I went into homecare.
I mostly carry out the daily main activities for the residents and help Ann plan for the monthly ones and trips and special activities. We think of ways to stimulate the residents hence the activities depend on each of their capabilities and what they are interested in.
Stimulating them is quite challenging as no one person is the same, so we welcome any inputs from the residents themselves and their families and rely on that information and their life stories to try and make the daily activities interesting. And believe me, I learn more from them than they do from me and I love it.
If any of you has any suggestions and would like to discuss your loved one’s interests and what you think they would like, specially to those who can’t voice out what they want feel free to approach me or Ann to discuss it or contact us at 025 40900 or email email@example.com we look forward to hear from you.
